How to Enable Automatic VM Deletion?

Stopped virtual machines (VMs) continue to consume disk space and other reserved provider resources. As a result, billing continues even when the VM is in a stopped state.

To avoid unnecessary charges, the service includes an automatic VM deletion feature.

Important: If you need to preserve your data but temporarily pause compute resources, use the Shelve (archive) feature. In this mode, you are only billed for disk storage. For more details on how to use the Shelve feature correctly, read here.

How to configure automatic VM deletion:

  1. Go to the My Cloud section.
  2. Click the pencil icon (Edit) next to the desired virtual machine.
  3. In the window that opens, navigate to the Advanced Settings section.
  4. Check the box for Delete after shutdown.

Available auto-deletion scenarios: Once enabled, you can choose between two options:

  • Delete immediately upon shutdown: The virtual machine will be automatically and permanently deleted the moment you change its status to "Stopped".
  • Delete by timer: The VM will be automatically deleted after a specified time interval (ranging from 30 minutes to several days) from the moment of its creation, regardless of whether it is currently running or stopped.

Important: The auto-deletion setting applies individually only to the specific VM where it was enabled. There is no global setting to apply this to all VMs at once.

VM deletion is irreversible. Before enabling this feature, ensure that all important data and generation results are safely backed up to external storage or your local device.
